High Seas Application

Because it's so lame, I'm going to include more history to the best of my abilities! The history section linked touched upon his phobia of the ocean and why it exists however in the High Speed novel, he is terrified of all water and not just the ocean. Considering he is an elementary school student in that, I'm hoping that it's safe to assume that while he is still a little anxious around most water, his main fear at this point in life now that he's grown up a bit is the ocean. Though he swims, he states that when he is swimming, it is as if he is fleeing from the water and that one can never tell what sorts of dangers are lurking down there.
Anyway. Enough of that. He has been friends with Haruka for a very long time and they are undoubtedly best friends. He is extremely attached and loyal to his friend and Makoto is even able to face his ultimate fears for him.
The two boys entered a race with two other friends and ended up winning the relay, however, once one of his friends (Rin) moved away, competitive swimming sort of went on the wayside for the three of them. They grew up and became the people they are today! Considering this anime has but eight episodes and a novel, there isn't much to say just yet.
[Personality]: Generally one to wear a smile, Makoto is a kind-hearted, polite person, always considerate of most people whether they be strangers, acquaintances or friends. He is seen playing with cats, entertaining his younger siblings and greeting old women. Lovingly dubbed the Mother Hen of the group, this nickname is not without reason. (It can be taken quite literally the way he mothers his siblings too.) He generally always keeps an eye out for his friends, making sure they are safe but also making sure they're not doing anything stupid (such as going swimming when it's cold or swimming in a fishtank). He is easily agreeable but not a pushover when it comes to something important. He can be quick to fold when the situation doesn't matter, however when he is standing up for a friend, he is very loyal. Though he will go along with crazy antics of his friends, he does often display signs of being frustrated or worn-out by their tomfoolery.
Makoto scares easily and at the drop of a hat. He appears to believe in ghosts and appears very nervously anxious when faced with an unsure situation. He gets uneasy in the dark and reacts very strongly when he's afraid, often clinging to his best friend or hiding behind him. (However, with some of his stronger and more deeply rooted fears, he tends to bottle his emotions, smiling and insisting nothing is wrong. He does not like to trouble people and will bite the bullet, sacrificing things for himself so that others don't have to. He is extremely selfless and will think nothing of inconveniencing himself for the sake of a friend. He is very motivated by his friends, especially his friendship with Haru, and at times he appears to become happy just by being in his friend's presence, punctuating their time with a gentle smile. (Or a frustrated twitch but that highly depends on the situation!)
[Abilities / Strengths & Weaknesses]:
Makoto is a really good swimmer despite his fear of the ocean. Because of his nice personality, he is good with people and animals and can oftentimes read those he is very close to. He's also probably way more patient than he should be. Especially for people who don't respond to things he's saying.
As for weaknesses, he is a very fearful person. He has less pronounced fears that he reacts strongly to for typically scary things like haunted houses, trouble with authority and things that would make most people uneasy. He also has a deep fear of the ocean that can be crippling to him. Oftentimes, his personality can be taken advantage of too.
[Limited Powers]:
He has no powers other than the power of height and also tremendous biceps. And his amazing backstroke.
[Other Important Facts]:
Even though he's only seventeen, Makoto is six feet tall and incredibly well built. Though that doesn't mean he couldn't get his ass kicked.

[ Having found himself by himself on a random island surrounded by the ocean, Makoto was extremely tentative as he stood on the edge of the beach. He had no idea how he had gotten there and he didn't remember swimming out so far (or into the sea at all) but needless to say, he wasn't in his usual mood. He looked out at the water anxiously. Though he didn't find it necessary to mask his feelings of displeasure with his current situation, he also didn't find it to be incredibly conducive to his mental wellbeing to hang around this area so he turned away from the rolling waves and hightailed it toward the Town Square.
Though he is further away from the water, he is still incredibly unsure and slightly anxious. If it isn't the ocean causing him such emotion, it could possibly be the fact that he was suddenly removed from everything that is familiar and plunked into a new place by himself. Overall, he was not a happy camper and was reduced to looking around aimlessly for anyone he might recognize.
Which, he soon finds, offers him little solution to his problem so he decides to ask around to try and find out if he was sucked into a horror movie or if maybe he died in his sleep. ]
